Team Spotlight: Siobhan Myles, Product Director
Welcome to Clue Software’s Team Spotlight, where we showcase the exceptional individuals behind our leading intelligence and investigation management software.
Today, we talk to Product Director, Siobhan Myles.
Hi Siobhan, tell us a bit about your background.
Trained in Psychology and Economics, I’ve been working in the software business for 18 years. I remember my first day as an Application Support Analyst vividly. I’d been seconded into the IT department of a large company where I’d been working in Customer Service. I had no idea what I was doing, I’d never read a line of code, I didn’t know a deployment pipeline from an air conditioning unit. But I’d always understood people and found that I became an invaluable bridge between the technical teams, the business, and customers, making sure that our efforts were always delivering maximum value to our end users.
In the years that followed I fell totally in love with technology and have made a career of working alongside engineers, translating market needs and customer wishes into specifications for products and services that have had a real impact in the world. I’ve been lucky enough to work on some cutting-edge innovations across multiple sectors (and to say that I now firmly know my aircon from my pipelines!).
What does your role at Clue entail and how does it benefit our customers?
I head up the Product team at Clue. As a team we are responsible for deciding what changes come to the Clue platform. There are lots of ways that we make sure that we’re moving in the right direction, front and centre is speaking to our customers, understanding what they are trying to achieve and figuring out if there are ways that technology can make those outcomes: faster, more robust, more reportable, easier to share etc.
We create porotypes and sit with customers to see how they use them to test our assumptions. We crunch usage data to see how customers are interacting with the features available to them and we learn learn learn. We fold this learning into our decision making about what comes next.
We are relentless technologists, we understand the potential for technology to support human processes but are connected enough to our end users to truly understand when a pencil is more powerful than a laptop. It’s all about balance. We leverage AI to help surface connected data and prompt users to take action, we automate reporting to save people time and increase transparency but we don’t integrate with coffee machines just because we could!
Once we’re confident we’ve got the right plan, we work with our engineering teams to give them all the information they need to turn ideas into action and bring new functionality to the platform.
I bring both creativity and analytical thinking to my role.
Who inspired you to pursue the career you have today?
Me! I’m a self-starter who’s always believed that we should all do what we love and nothing but. I love working with customers and internal stakeholders I am obsessed with technology and innovation. Once I had a taste, I never looked back.
What excites inspires you about working at Clue?
I am so proud to be helping protect society from harm. Like, so, so proud! I’ve been lucky to work on several socially responsible products throughout my career, but the impact Clue software has on the world is so significant that everything I’ve done before pales in comparison. I have conversations about real-world lived experiences with customers and our internal experts DAILY. These stories are incredibly inspiring and remind me why we all work so hard to get it right.
What’s your secret talent no one knows about?
I used to do musical theatre! I once played the role of sleeping beauty – just saying 😉
Tell me something about you that most people don’t know.
I’ve run 35 half marathons (mainly for the medals!). My happy place is running (or often walking these days) through muddy woods.
Which accomplishments are you most proud of in your career?
I’ve been really proud to see some of my previous team members excel in their careers. As a leader, it’s always wonderful to see people reach their potential. An engineer I mentored throughout his career progressed from a Developer to a Director, which is a particular highlight for me.
